Investigation 1: The Human Brain

In this first Investigation, students explore the remarkable organization of the human brain. Through hands-on activities such as brain dissection and the Brain Cap mapping exercise, they discover that different brain structures perform specialized functions while working together as a unified system. This foundation prepares students to understand how the brain processes information throughout the Human Cognition unit.

Enduring Understanding

By the end of Investigation 1, students should understand:

“The brain isn’t just one thing. It is an incredibly organized system in which different structures perform different functions while working together as a unified whole.”
